–As Induction Of Members -Elect Begins In Enugu
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has harped on the need for members -elect of the Seventh Assembly to promote the welfare, peace, order and good government for the people and the state.
In his opening remarks on Monday at a 4 -day induction /refresher programme for members -elect of the Delta State House of Assembly in Enugu, the Speaker reminded members -elect that their constituents have placed on their shoulders great responsibility to be their mouth -piece in government.
“So, in our actions and inactions in government, we must at all times remember that we are nothing but representatives of our people. Some people call this mandate of ours “trusteeship ” while others refer to it as “servant-leadership “. We are the Chief messengers of our Constituencies.
In effect, the aggregate of our actions as members of the the Seventh Assembly must reflect and result in the promotion of welfare, peace, order and good government for our people and the state “, he said.
Speaking further at the induction programme tagged “Reflection and Empowerment for the Task Ahead “, Rt Hon Oborevwori, stated that the programme is basically a fulfillment of a resolution by the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, Forum of Clerks of State Houses of Assembly and Development Partners.
He said; “The essence of this programme therefore, is to provide members -elect with tools and necessary insight on how best we can deliver on our mandate of law making, representation and oversight. Accordingly, this induction is therefore a unique opportunity for us to develop and deepen our understanding of providing quality leadership as legislators in the state “.
The Speaker urged members -elect to take the programme seriously and be active and expressed gratitude to the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for making the programme possible.
Earlier, Clerk of the House, Barr. Lyna Ochulor, congratulated the members elect. ”With joy in my heart, I welcome you to this induction programme for members elect of the Seventh Assembly. This Programme is aimed at setting the tone for legislative business. We will leave here at the end of the programme enriched and I want to implore members -elect to pay adequate attention to the training “.
In his goodwill message, Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Uchenna Ubosi said that; “I am happy that this unique programme is taking place here in Enugu. I wish you all a peaceful deliberation . Do your best to your people as lawmakers; be good representatives of your people. Try to be loyal. Loyalty matters a lot. Respect the authority and do the needful always “.
